Cleveland Browns Set to Kick Off Preseason with Veteran QB Joe Flacco

The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for their preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, and it's been confirmed that Joe Flacco will take the field as their starting quarterback.

Flacco, a seasoned veteran at the age of 40, has been named the Week 1 starter for the regular season as well. The Browns see him as a short-term starter or placeholder while considering the rookies for future development.

During training camp, Flacco has been the consistent presence on the field, while other quarterbacks have faced injuries. Kenny Pickett, acquired from the Eagles in an offseason trade, is still recovering from a hamstring injury and will not be available for 11-on-11 work. Shedeur Sanders, a fifth-round pick, and Dillon Gabriel, a third-round pick, are the two rookies on the roster.

Sanders missed part of the preseason due to an oblique injury but is expected to play in limited snaps after Flacco. Gabriel, who played at UCF, Oklahoma, and Oregon before being drafted, needs to clear hurdles with a sore hamstring if he wants to start this weekend.

Despite not expressing much anticipation for the opportunity to play against the Philadelphia Eagles, Gabriel has been focusing on the present and competing at a high level one play at a time. Sanders, on the other hand, received high marks from coach Kevin Stefanski after his two-TD showing against the Carolina Panthers.

Stefanski plans to give both rookie quarterbacks starts in the preseason and vary the offense in preseason games. Shedeur Sanders made a strong debut last week, and his performance in practice has been reviewed favorably by the Browns' coaching staff.

In the midst of the quarterback shuffle, one thing remains certain: Only one quarterback on the roster has not been injured this summer. As the Browns prepare for their game against the Eagles, they'll be relying on Flacco's veteran leadership and the potential of their young quarterbacks.
