Injured key players from Syracuse poised for comeback against Clemson
The Syracuse Orange football team is gearing up for a challenging match against the Clemson Tigers this Saturday. Despite a few injuries, the Orange is expected to field a healthy roster, with key players set to make their return.
Devin Grant, who has been nursing a limp, is expected to be ready for the noon kickoff. Grant's backup, Kam Pringle, is also set to play. On the defensive side, Gary Bryant III, Derek McDonald, and Dion Wilson Jr. from Syracuse, and four starters from Clemson – Antonio Williams (wide receiver), Khalil Barnes (safety), Elyjah Thurman (offensive lineman), and Tristan Leigh (offensive lineman) – may see the field.
Wide receiver Justus Ross-Simmons and right tackle Da'Metrius Weatherspoon, who left the Colgate game early with a limp, are also expected to play. However, Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Tyshawn Russell is likely to be rested due to an undisclosed injury.
The Orange's offense will be spearheaded by the nation's top passer, a title that has earned them a leader with a strong arm and strategic mind. Syracuse football coach Fran Brown has been instrumental in this, helping one of his transfers negotiate a better deal, as Brown put it, "He got way more bread."
Meanwhile, Yasin Willis, Devin Grant, and Trevion Mack (foot) are all expected to play on the offensive side. Emanuel Ross, who has yet to play this season, may also make his debut against the Tigers.
On the defensive side, Cornell Perry, who has been filling in for Grant, has a Pro Football Focus grade of 72.4, which ranks second among Syracuse defenders with at least 100 snaps played.
The Orange will be without running back/return specialist Malachi James for another week, according to the official ACC injury report. However, freshman wide receiver Darius Johnson, who fractured his fibula in training camp, is set to make his season debut next week against Duke. Freshman wide receiver Darien Williams, who caught the first touchdown of his career against Colgate, will also play against Clemson.
Clemson is favoured in this match, but an overlooked Orange playmaker is drawing attention for different reasons. The game promises to be an exciting clash, with both teams eager to prove their mettle.
In other news, Syracuse football has announced its first sellout of 2025, a testament to the growing enthusiasm for the sport in the city. As the Orange prepares to take on the Tigers, fans are eagerly awaiting the action-packed encounter. Stay tuned for our predictions for the game.
