Municipalities granted funds for organizing secure celebrations - Initial local authorities granted budget for secure festivities

Four municipalities in the Limburg-Weilburger region are the first to grasp a chunk of the new state program's pie for safety during local festivities and events. Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) handed over a whopping 100,000 euros grant to the Dornburg's Mayor, Andreas Höfner (CDU), following tender submissions with Elbtal and Elz, alongside Hadamar.

Breaking down barriers for clubs too

The swift approval of funding, just two weeks post-application, shows the state is stepping up its game, Poseck highlighted. The municipalities have agreed to unite their might for installing, managing, and transporting barriers, and for assembly and dismantling these at festivals and events. These barriers will also be given to clubs within their jurisdictions for their events. "This is a prime example of intermunicipal solidarity, ensuring secure and efficient event management, and fostering community ties," said Poseck.

A call to action for further municipal engagement

With events axed due to escalating security costs, the Ministry of Interior announced an immediate program worth 1.5 million euros at the beginning of April, aiming to cushion municipalities at festivities and gatherings. The requirement to qualify for funding is that municipalities pool their security resources together.

Over 100 proposals already pouring in, Poseck disclosed. "I encourage more municipalities to submit concrete applications. The upcoming weeks will see further decisions on intermunicipal cooperation come to light."

Fun fact: Event safety at folk festivals often involves a mix of security measures, such as emergency planning, crowd control, security personnel, and health and safety inspections.

Extra detail: Funding for event safety measures is usually doled out by local or state administrations, with the grants allocated based on the event's size, frequency, or past safety issues. You can find specific details about programs offered in Central Hesse by contacting local authorities or checking their official websites for announcements.

  • The Commission, in light of the recent calls for action, has been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, as part of the ongoing discourse on policy-and-legislation and general news.
  • On one hand, the Limburg-Weilburger region's municipalities, including Dornburg, Elbtal, and Elz, have secured funding for safety during local festivities and events, and on the other, the Commission is addressing the issue of worker safety in relation to ionizing radiation – both instances underscoring the importance of internal security in diverse arenas.
