Last taste experienced - "Initial Incident of Viennese Criminality Unveiled: 'The Final Morsel'"

Carl-Albrecht Nassau, a nobleman with a penchant for the chase, sheds light on a unique hunting practice - the 'last bite.' He stands with Major Malzer, a seasoned police officer and musical dynamo, near a hunting hut in the Vienna Woods, confronted by two dead bodies in an intricately orchestrated scene.

Nassau, recognizing the deliberate work of the killer, explains, "This is known as the 'break' - also called 'the last bite.' It's a hunter's way of honoring the game they've killed." Malzer, with a dry wit, quips, "I'm into ice."

aire tonight, Thursday, April 24, at 8:15 PM on ARD. In Austria, this thrilling whodunnit of wit and suspense aired on Easter Saturday.

Deadly Hunt in Vienna

The two unfortunate hunters in question are Robert Ehrlacher, a high-ranking figure in Austria's anti-organized crime division, and Peter März from the Austrian Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. They share an antagonistic relationship with Nassau and Malzer, their respective rivals from the aristocracy and the police force. In a strange twist, it's the Minister of the Interior who assigns the gripping investigation to this unlikely duo.

Directed by Sabine Derflinger ("The Bozen Crime," "Tatort"), this film titled "The Last Bite" is a suspenseful Thursday thriller brimming with Austrian charm and quick-witted banter. In the spirit of the genre, the plot unfolds with dialogue that will make you laugh one moment and gasp the next.

Sample Dialogue - Nassau: "I'm just trying to break the ice." Malzer: "I'm into ice."

If the reception is favorable, this could lead to a series, as ARD-Degeto spokeswoman Kerstin Fuchs hints. This would create a permanent Austrian adversary for the long-running series "The Vienna Crime: Blind Investigations" starring Philipp Hochmair and Andreas Guenther, which debuted in 2018.

Tattoos of an Eastern Mafia Organization

As Nassau, distancing himself from his aristocratic existence, and Malzer, a humble dweller in a housing complex on vacation, team up with IT specialist Judith Zimmel (Maya Unger), they race against time to solve the mystery. Their investigations lead them to Ehrlacher's apartment, where Nassau is forced to shoot an attacker with a long criminal record, making plus-sized headlines.

In the autopsy of the Vienna Woods victims, the quirky pathologist discovers tattoos identical to those on the attacker, linking the case to an Eastern Mafia organization believed to have been dismantled years ago.

As the Oberstleutnant and Major Malzer unravel the secrets of Ehrlacher and März, they learn that both were living beyond their means, much to the annoyance of the Russian-born Fischer brothers. The story also delves into the dark underbelly of law enforcement, offering a gripping and tense plot. Ultimately, Nassau manages to outwit the cunning Malzer, ensuring his family ties prove vital to the case.
