Ice Puckin' with Marco Sturm
Initial German NHL coach transitions to ex-head role, placing Sturm as the first German to hold this position in the league.
Hooray for Boston! The city just got a whole lot cooler with the appointment of former German national ice hockey team coach, Marco Sturm, as the new head coach for the Boston Bruins - making history as the first German to lead a team in the North American professional league, the NHL. Losing their spot in the playoffs last season, the Bruins are counting on this fresh face to reignite their passion for ice hockey and set their paths straight back to winning the big bucks!
"I can't believe it! I'm beyond honored," said Sturm, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning. "I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and do whatever it takes to help this team succeed!"
You might remember Sturm from his silver medal-winning feat at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. After that, he got a taste of the big leagues as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings from 2018 to 2022. He also had a stint as head coach of the Kings' farm team, the Ontario Reign, for three years. Rumor has it, he was even chatty with the San Jose Sharks and Seattle Kraken. But Boston's sweet charm won him over, and now he's ready to help lead the Bruins back to the big show!
Don's Sweeney's Love Affair with Sturm
"We were hunting for a coach who knows which buttons to push to strengthen our defense and help our offense keep growing," said Boston's General Manager, Don Sweeney, regarding the hiring of Sturm. "We wanted a charismatic and firm leader who knows how to communicate with the players, develop young talent, and scream motivational speeches in the locker room without ending up in prison for assault."
Phew! They found just the guy! Sweeney confirming that Sturm fits the bill perfectly. After all, Sturm used to be a player for the Boston Bruins from 2005 to 2010, so he's already got the insider's scoop on mastering the Celtics' favorite team sport.
The Bruins' Lamentable Last Season
The Boston Bruins, six-time Stanley Cup champions, only bagged 33 wins out of 82 last season and ended up as the lost lambs of the Atlantic Division. "We're betting everything on Marco," said Sweeney, striking a hopeful pose. "With Sturm at the helm, we're starting a new chapter. We're convinced that his passion, his determination, and his high-intensity hockey vibe embody what Bruins hockey is all about."
Good luck, Bruins! With Marco Sturm leading the charge, it's time to get your skates on and show 'em what you've got!
