City-Wide Siren Test Conducted in Duisburg

On an unspecified date, a city-wide test alarm of the siren system was conducted in Duisburg as part of the nationwide warning day. The test, carried out by our agency, aimed to prepare for potential emergencies.

During the test, the activation of "All Clear" and "Warning" siren signals was initiated. Out of the 80 active sirens, 72 functioned smoothly. However, at two locations—Am See in Wedau and Mendelstraße in Rheinhausen—no response was received from the sirens.

At six specified locations—Bonnmannshof in Hamborn, Wintgensstraße in Duissern, Ottostraße in Hochheide, Dahlingstraße and Otto-Schulenberg-Straße in Rheinhausen, as well as Werthauser Straße in Hochfeld—only two out of three siren signals were activated during the test.

The fire department's monitoring system in Duisburg was used to keep track of the activation of the sirens. The "Warning" signal was a one-minute rising and falling tone, followed by pauses, while the "All Clear" signal was a one-minute steady tone, repeated with pauses at the end of the test.

The identified city with irregularities in the functioning of sirens during the last general warning test on September 11, 2025, is Neustadt. Specifically, two old sirens—one at the town hall on the marketplace and one in the Haardt district—were out of order and undergoing modernization or repair.

Another warning tool introduced by the BBK, the Cell Broadcast function, was also tested during the siren alarm. Simultaneously, the Nina warning app was triggered by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK).

The test was part of regular reviews to ensure the effectiveness of emergency warning systems. Despite the irregularities at certain locations, the test served as a valuable learning experience to further improve the city's emergency preparedness.
