Information about the 51st BMW Berlin Marathon: A ban on weapons and knives has been implemented in the area of Mitte district
In preparation for the upcoming 51st BMW Berlin Marathon, scheduled for the weekend of September 20-21, 2025, the Berlin Police have issued a temporary general order to enhance public safety and order.
The prohibited area covers central sections along the marathon route in the Mitte district, extending beyond the central sections. This includes the railway track in the area of Lüneburger Straße (Paulstraße to Friedrichstraße), Friedrichstraße to Behrenstraße, Behrenstraße to Ebertstraße, Ebertstraße to Potsdamer Platz, Potsdamer Platz to Potsdamer Straße, Sharounstraße, Herbert-von-Karajan-Straße to Tiergartenstraße, Tiergartenstraße to Hofjägerallee, Hofjägerallee to Großer Stern, Spreeweg via Lutherbrücke to Paulstraße, and back to the railway track.
During the ban, which applies from September 20 to 21, 2025, each day from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., the carrying of weapons and knives is prohibited. This ban applies to all types of knives (including kitchen, pocket, and utility knives) and SRS weapons (irritant, signal, and blank-firing weapons).
However, exceptions are made for police, rescue forces, deployed forces, and employees of gastronomic establishments within the restricted area. Those with a Small Firearms Permit are not allowed to carry their SRS weapons during the ban. The carrying of prohibited items (knives, SRS weapons) should be kept away from immediate access at all times.
Non-compliance with the ban may result in the immediate seizure and destruction of the carried items. The police have the right to use immediate force to enforce these measures.
The general order becomes publicly known on the day following its publication in the official gazette.
