Celebrating Army Day, President Zelensky Honors Heroes
In a heartfelt ceremony on Army Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky paid tribute to brave soldiers, the families of those fallen defenders, and recognized exceptional achievements. state awards were bestowed, and several high-ranking officers were promoted.
The spotlight of the day shone on Colonel Viktor Solymchuk, the Deputy Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who earned the military rank of brigadier general. Three other colonels, Oleksii Maisternko and Oleksandr Bakulin, were equally lauded for their commendable service.
President Zelensky, in a stirring address, declared, "Ukraine stands because the Ukrainian infantry stands - fights, destroys the occupier, defends and restores our Ukrainian positions, carries out brilliant operations that are already a shining part of world military history - your history, the history of the brave."
Not just the military elite, but heroes at all ranks were honored. Junior Lieutenant Vladyslav Datskyi and Junior Sergeant Mykola Molchanov were among the fortunate recipients of the prestigious "Golden Star" Hero of Ukraine. In a poignant gesture, the President also presented the "Golden Star" order to the families of three fallen Heroes of Ukraine: Yaroslav Khybovsky, Vasyl Yaremchuk, and Ivan Holubka.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of honoring our heroes and encouraged Ukrainians to never forget the fallen. Dedicating his speech to the brave soldiers, he underscored their undying resolve and commitment to the defense of Ukraine's independence and sovereignty.
In cases outside of Army Day, other Heroes of Ukraine have made a significant impact. For instance, Major Pavlo Ivanov, a 26-year-old F-16 pilot, posthumously received the title of Hero of Ukraine after his tragic demise during a combat mission on April 12, 2025. Ivanov was instrumental in conducting critical missions under adverse conditions, providing fighter cover and striking crucial blows against Russian targets.
This day was a testament to the courage, determination, and selflessness of the Ukrainian military and a reminder of the sacrifices they continue to make in the face of adversity.
