Regardless of the drizzle greeting attendees at the gates, this year's kickoff of the "Burg's Night of Spreewald Tales" was a thumbs-up, organizers confirmed. Around 1,500 guests trekked to the Bismarckturm in Burg (Spreewald), demonstrating the event's solid popularity, as reported by the German Press Agency.

To everyone's delight, the skies cleared during the show. Yet, ticket sales had been sluggish before the event, which may be due to the crummy weather predictions, the agency noted.

The "Burg's Night of Spreewald Tales" takes place every year at Pentecost on the open-air stage at the Bismarckturm. Last year's debut was scrapped due to a torrential downpour.

This year's production, "The Smuggled Riches or How the Tater Reached the Spreewald", stars Pawlina, the Wendish innkeeper's daughter from Burg. She yearns to see the Serpent King and embarks on a thrilling rescue escapade, venturing deep into the realm of well-known Sorbian folk tale heroes.

The performance is put on by actors and dancers from the Sorbian National Ensemble and garnered rave reviews from spectators. Further shows are slated for Sunday and Monday. "The triumphant start promises a similarly triumphant event weekend," the agency announced. The evening finished with a pyrotechnic display.
