In a heart-stopping incident in Minsk, a woman found herself in distress after falling off a stand-up paddleboard in a local water body. The woman, who couldn't swim, was in a critical situation, exhausted and crying for help.

A quick-thinking man, who happened to be nearby, sprang into action. He swam up to the woman and kept her afloat until the lifeguards from the "Zaslavl-1" station arrived at the scene. The man's timely assistance undoubtedly helped to save the woman's life.

The incident was reported by the Lifesaving Society, which highlighted the risks involved in water rescues. A recent study by the Society revealed that in Canada, between 2010 and 2019, 54.7% of the 4,535 unintentional drowning deaths involved rescue attempts, with 74.4% of rescuers being untrained bystanders. Tragically, 74 lay rescuers died while trying to save others, underscoring the risks involved in water rescues.

While the Lifesaving Society did not provide details of recent water rescue incidents, they have been working to improve water safety. They have released draft safety standards related to lifeguard supervision during open water swimming events and protocols for extreme weather preparedness at aquatic facilities. The Society is currently seeking feedback from its members, indicating ongoing efforts to improve water safety.

For detailed or current incident information, direct contact with the Society's communications officers is recommended.
