INEC Revokes Recognition: Abure Faction Accuses Peter Obi and Alex Otti of Losing Support
In the ongoing leadership crisis within the Labour Party, the Julius Abure-led faction has identified Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti as the "losers". The Abure faction accuses Obi of creating the crisis due to his desperate attempt to control the party and claims he lacks the competence and character to lead Nigeria.
The Abure-led faction also condemns Obi and Otti for celebrating court rulings that reportedly undermine the party, rather than working towards its unity. They believe these actions are detrimental to the party's future. Meanwhile, the Abure faction asserts its legitimacy and calls for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize it officially.
Meanwhile, Obiora Ifoh, the factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, has expressed disapproval of the actions of Nenadi Usman and her camp. Ifoh questions if they are celebrating the withdrawal of recognition from Julius Abure by INEC following a Federal High Court decision on August 15, 2025, because they want the Labour Party to die. He wonders if they are not playing into the hands of the opposition.
Ifoh further accuses Nenadi Usman and her cohorts of manipulating the opposition. He questions their motives, suggesting they may want the Labour Party to fail. The opposing faction does not recognize the court ruling on August 15, 2025, that withdrew recognition from Julius Abure as the legitimate chairman of the Labour Party.
The statement from the opposing faction expresses disapproval of Nenadi Usman's actions. They wonder if she and her camp are playing into the hands of the opposition. The opposing faction also considers the counter-affidavit being circulated by Nenadi Usman's faction as repetitive.
In summary, according to the Julius Abure-led group, the winners in this crisis are themselves, who assert their legitimacy and call for recognition. The losers, as viewed by this faction, are Peter Obi and Alex Otti, who are believed to be responsible for fracturing and weakening the party.
