IndyCar's decision about Will Power's future remains undecided as the 2025 NTT season comes to a close

IndyCar veteran Will Power's future in the sport remains uncertain as the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series approaches its closing stages.

As the 2025 NTT IndyCar Season reaches its climax, one of its most decorated drivers, Will Power, finds himself uncertain about his racing future with Team Penske.

Power, a two-time series champion and an Indy 500 winner, is currently in the last year of his contract. His current deal with Team Penske to drive the No. 12 Chevrolet expires at the end of the season, and as of mid-August, he has yet to receive an official contract offer for 2026.

Despite this uncertainty, Power has been delivering strong performances throughout the season. He recently secured a win at the Portland Grand Prix, a performance that many believe strengthens his case for retention. Power himself insists he remains competitive and valuable to the team, highlighting his ongoing motivation, racecraft, and recent successes.

However, there are strong rumours and insider reports suggesting that Team Penske is preparing to replace Power with 23-year-old David Malukas, currently racing for AJ Foyt Racing. This potential move would mark a significant change for Team Penske, as Malukas has podiums but no race wins yet.

Team Penske President Jonathan Diuguid has been cryptic but positive about Power’s current form following his Portland win, emphasising the team's focus on the remainder of the 2025 season. Officially, the team has not commented on contract matters.

Power, on the other hand, has expressed a desire to know his racing plans for the 2025 season and beyond. He has stated that the uncertainty about his future is causing stress, and he is unable to discuss his racing future with other teams until after the 2025 NTT IndyCar Season ends on August 31.

The season finale for the 2025 NTT IndyCar Season will take place at Nashville Superspeedway on Aug. 31. It is expected that official confirmations and announcements regarding Power's future with Team Penske will be made after this race.

Until then, Power continues to focus on delivering strong performances on the track. With the record for the most pole positions in IndyCar history under his belt, fans can expect nothing less from the Australian driver.
