The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music is hosting a special edition of LA Sounds Now on September 27, with subsequent talks scheduled on Monday evenings throughout the fall. This series aims to explore inspiring examples of change in music, activism, and social justice, with a particular focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the music industry.

The series will be held in Lani Hall theater and will be free and open to the public, both in-person and virtually via livestream. The conversations will be co-moderated by Eileen Strempel and Arturo O'Farrill, and will delve into the representation gap between artists and industry executives, as well as the progress made in EDI within the music industry since the murder of George Floyd.

The series will feature a notable group of professionals, including IDK, Tom Corson, Elissa Ayadi, Julian K. Petty, Harvey Mason Jr., Jeanette Perez, Carianne Marshall, Brandon Sharp, Dr. Maurice A. Stinnett, and others. The talks will take place from 6PM - 6:50PM Pacific time.

For those interested in staying updated on the schedule of events, signing up for the school's Newsletter is recommended. The series will also be livestreamed for virtual attendance, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The LA Sounds Now series is integrated with the Still Waiting Speaker Series, which has been discussing progress made in EDI within various industries. Although general trends in the music industry post-George Floyd’s murder include more public commitments by music institutions to EDI, efforts to elevate diverse voices, and initiatives to address systemic barriers, the specific progress reported by the LA Sounds Now series concerning EDI in the music industry is yet to be fully detailed.

For a comprehensive understanding of the series' findings and insights, consulting the series directly or accessing their published materials would be necessary. Whether you're a music lover, an industry professional, or simply interested in social justice, the LA Sounds Now series promises to be an enlightening and thought-provoking event.
