Gear Up for a Night of Sports Glory!
Hey there! Here's a scoop on the upcoming event you won't want to miss! Tickets are still available ($100 for an individual, $1,000 for a table) for the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame banquet happening at the Albuquerque Convention Center on the specified date.
Let's meet the superstars who'll be inducted:
- Roy Cooper, hailing from Hobbs, claimed six PRCA titles in rodeo calf-roping and was named the All-around Cowboy in 1983. Sadly, Cooper passed away at the age of 69 in April.
- Steve Loy, a former Sandia High School and Eastern New Mexico quarterback, is now one of the country's top sports agents. He's also an ENMU All-America golfer and has been inducted into the ENMU Hall of Honor.
- Alana Nichols, originally from Farmington, bravely overcame paralysis following a snowboarding accident to become a gold medalist in Paralympic basketball and skiing!
- Michael Sinclair, a Texan and an All-America ENMU defensive lineman, played 11 seasons in the NFL and was picked for three Pro Bowls.
- Fredd Young, a standout player at NMSU, twice earned All-Pro honors with the Seattle Seahawks during his seven-year NFL career.
This event, said to be black-tie fashion, commences at 6 p.m., with a reception from 5-6 p.m prior. To register or get more details, hit up nmshof.org or the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame's Facebook page.
Now for a bit of news that's recently been announced - Randy Brown, former New Mexico State basketball star and initially chosen as a part of the current induction class, is no longer part of it. The reason? A polite decline of the honor by Brown himself, as communicated by a member of the NMSHOF board.
