Indonesian president, Prabowo, carries out yet another cabinet reshuffle
Cabinet Shake-up in Indonesia: News of August 31 Announcement
President Prabowo Subianto announced another round of cabinet reshuffle on August 31, marking the second major news this month. The changes come after the dismissal of four ministers and the appointment of several new faces to key positions.
In the Cooperatives Ministry, Prabowo created a new deputy ministership, appointing Farida Farichah from the pro-government National Awakening Party (PKB) to fill the post. Farida is a politician of Gerindra and one of the President's key campaigners in last year's election.
The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) saw a change as well. Deputy Communication and Digital Minister Angga Raka was appointed to serve as the PCO head. Angga, like Farida, is a member of the Gerindra Party.
The position of Presidential Chief of Staff was also replaced, with Muhammad Qodari taking over from Anto M. Putranto. Interestingly, Muhammad is another close ally of former president Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
Budi Gunawan was removed from the post of coordinating political and security affairs minister last week. Replacing him is Djamari Chaniago, who served as the chief of TNI general staff from 2000 to 2004. Djamari was also appointed as the new coordinating political and security affairs minister.
The Youth and Sports Ministry has been vacant since Dito Ariotedjo was removed from the post last week. Erick Thohir, who was previously the state-owned enterprises (SOE) minister, has been reassigned to lead the Youth and Sports Ministry.
In addition to these changes, two definite replacements were brought in last week. Rohmat Marzuki replaced deputy forestry minister Sulaiman Umar. Rohmat is the treasurer of the Central Java branch of Prabowo's own Gerindra Party.
Sarah Sadiqa was promoted to the head of the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP). Sarah was previously the deputy for strategy and policy at LKPP.
Retired police general Ahmad Dofiri was appointed to the role of presidential expert staff for security and public order. Ahmad served as police deputy chief from November 2024 until his retirement in June of this year.
Lastly, a new haj portfolio and its deputy ministership were created last week. No explicit name was given for the politician who will lead the Presidential Office for Communication and Digital Media, a key campaigner for an important presidential party candidate during the protests in Indonesia. However, it is known that the Indonesian President mentioned in related news is Prabowo Subianto, and no direct link has been found to the head of the communication office.
This round of cabinet reshuffle follows the first one that took place earlier this month, underscoring President Prabowo's commitment to continually refine and strengthen his administration.
