The Cricket Control Board of India ponders over resuming the suspended IPL matches of 2025, potentially hosting the remaining games in the south or east of the country. Yet, the ongoing tension might disrupt these plans.

Restarting the Game: IPL 2025's Resumption Plan

Indo-Pak tensions prompt BCCI to explore new locations for the resumption of IPL 2025, as per a recent report.

Amidst the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been put on hold. However, if the recent ceasefire agreement is sustained, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been contemplating a return to the game.

Sources suggest that the BCCI is in the process of setting up a contingency plan, with a prime focus on resuming the IPL within the forthcoming week [1]. The league's restart will be contingent upon consultation with key stakeholders, including the government, franchises, and broadcasters, to establish a suitable resumption timeline.

If the IPL does indeed proceed, the BCCI has planned alternative venues for the remaining matches, should logistical challenges arise. The cities under consideration include Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru [4]. However, should tensions de-escalate, the BCCI might decide to return to the original venues initially designated for the unfinished matches.

The BCCI's decision to resume the IPL 2025 impacts India's hectic cricket schedule. If the IPL resumption falls behind the desired timeframe, it may have to be postponed due to other commitments, such as a Test series in England starting June 20, followed by the Pataudi Trophy against Pakistan, ending on August 4 [2]. The Asia Cup, tentatively scheduled for September, and a tour to Australia from October to December, are also significant events that the BCCI must carefully plan around.

In the event that IPL 2025 resumes, the BCCI must ensure the safety and well-being of foreign players amid the lingering security concerns related to the ongoing India-Pakistan military conflict.
