"Individual's passion for driving vehicles excluding Formula One cars points to the possibility of the Nürburgring racetrack sparking similar ideas in Max Verstappen."
Max Verstappen, the quadruple world champion of Formula 1, recently ventured into the world of GT racing at the iconic Nürburgring circuit. This foray into a different racing realm was met with enthusiasm, as an extra stand was added for his visit.
Verstappen, a big fan of the Nürburgring, gained valuable experience on the circuit during his GT racing stint. He competed with a Porsche Cayman GT4, a car with 300 horsepower, less than most of his competitors. Despite the power disadvantage, Verstappen embraced the challenge with genuine enthusiasm.
The topic of conversation was Verstappen's weekend in GT racing at the Nürburgring. Helmut Marko, Red Bull's management, expressed enthusiasm about Verstappen's possible participation in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Marko, a racing veteran himself, having raced in endurance events, including a victory in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, saw potential in Verstappen's GT racing experience.
Verstappen's GT racing experience also honed his skills in managing traffic when in a slower car. This skill, learned during his GT racing stint, could prove beneficial in the future, especially in Formula 1 races with numerous cars on the track.
Verstappen is open to racing outside of Formula 1 during the season, but finds it complicated to figure out how many times he can do so, especially with the new regulations. However, he is not concerned about overcrowding his future schedule.
In addition to his Formula 1 racing weekends, Verstappen has combined racing with virtual racing in a simulator set up in his personal motorhome. He raced at Imola in the last two years using this setup. Despite his primary identity as a Formula 1 driver, Verstappen considers driving other racing cars than F1 as his hobby.
Verstappen defines himself primarily as a Formula 1 driver and intends to prove it on the track, race after race. His GT racing stint at the Nürburgring is just another step in his journey to solidify his position as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time.
