Michael Bully Herbig, the renowned German director, has released his latest Western parody, "Das Kanu des Manitu," in cinemas across the country. The film is a sequel to the successful "Der Schuh des Manitu" and continues the humorous take on the classic Western genre.

In an interview on the occasion of the film's release, Herbig expressed his views on the current debates in Germany. He sees the growing awareness of injustices, hurtful, or racist representations as a positive development. However, he criticizes the prevalence of rigid views in these debates, calling for calmer discussions and listening.

Herbig was surprised by the immediate attacks on "Das Kanu des Manitu" instead of trusting the creative team to handle the film cleverly. He does not support the practice of bashing everything that is found offensive and calling it 'woke'. Instead, he believes that it would be more productive to make a nice film first and then watch it together.

The film's release coincides with a debate about the need for calm discussions and listening in Germany. Herbig's comments reflect his perspective on current societal issues in Germany, and he expresses his belief that the Woke movement, while generally good, can tip over into the opposite extreme if taken too far.

"Das Kanu des Manitu" will be screened in cinemas from August 14. Fans of Herbig's work and those who enjoy Western parodies are eagerly awaiting the film's release. With its humorous take on the genre and Herbig's thoughtful comments on current debates, "Das Kanu des Manitu" promises to be an engaging watch.
