Catching everybody's attention once more, a car rammed into a crowd in the heart of Passau. The incident left five individuals wounded, including the driver's 40-year-old wife and five-year-old daughter. The Iraqi suspect, aged 48, was promptly apprehended. All three were residing in Passau, as reported by the police. Initial investigations seem to suggest that a custody battle could have been the driving force behind the disheartening event.
Both the woman and her daughter, alongside three other casualties, are now recovering in the hospital. The extent of their injuries has yet to be clarified, but none of them are critically ill, as stated by a police spokesperson.
The man was behind the wheel when he decisively steered the vehicle onto the sidewalk near the main train station at around 3:30 PM. Police swiftly assumed that the man had deliberately targeted the group.
It remains unknown if he provided any statement. As reported by the spokesperson, "The Criminal Police are on the scene, taking charge of the investigation." The spokesperson couldn't specify the connection between the other wounded individuals and the family.
Bystanders Summon the Authorities
Witnesses were quick to alert the police, and the injured were swiftly transported to the clinic via ambulance. The accident site was subsequently sealed off. The wreckage of the car was towed away using a crane in the early evening. Witnesses have been urged to contact the Passau Criminal Police Inspectorate.
Previously, in February, a car rammed into a demonstration in Munich, causing numerous injuries. Two casualties - a woman and her two-year-old daughter - later passed away in the hospital. The 24-year-old alleged perpetrator is currently in custody.
