Individual tragically murders both mother and son, leaves behind eight-year-old children amidst gruesome remains.
Georgia Man Convicted of Double Murder
A 29-year-old man named William Jerome Adams has been convicted of the double murder of his girlfriend, Mary Lindsay, 39, and her 15-year-old son, Atif Muhammad Jr., in the town of Flowery Branch near Atlanta.
The tragic events unfolded in March 2021, with Adams shooting the two victims and leaving their bodies in a locked bedroom. The young Lindsay's eight-year-old son, another child of Mary Lindsay, was left alone in the house for several days.
The shocking discovery was made two days after the crime by the oldest daughter of the victims, who found her eight-year-old brother sleeping in the mother's room. The young woman and her twin brother later found the bodies in the locked bedroom.
Investigators found three 9mm shell casings at the scene, and it was confirmed that the 9mm pistol belonged to Adams. A photo as evidence, which the 39-year-old victim had sent to herself via email, documented an injury on her arm that Adams was said to have caused.
Adams attempted to flee to Mexico after the crime, withdrawing $2,000 from Lindsay’s bank account. He was arrested by border officials in Texas only one day after the bodies were found, using a false name and having no passport with him.
The prosecution painted a dark picture of the relationship between Adams and his victims, describing it as controlling and violent. The twin sister of the 15-year-old victim also testified during the trial.
Adams was convicted on two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault and sentenced to two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. The prosecutor, Patsy Austin-Gatson, described Adams as a defendant who violently took the lives of a mother and her son and stole from them.
Patsy Austin-Gatson expressed condolences to the family of the victims and hoped that the outcome of the proceedings would bring them some closure and justice. The prosecutor deemed the sentence of two life terms without the possibility of early release as appropriate for Adams' actions.
