Hit-and-Run Incident in Batterstown, Co Meath: Gardaí Appeal for Information

In a tragic turn of events, a hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 80-year-old cyclist, Edward (Ned) McLoughlin, in Batterstown, Ballivor, Co Meath, last Friday morning.

Gardaí at Trim Garda Station are appealing for information from the public regarding the incident that occurred on the R156. A man in his 40s was arrested by Gardaí in connection with the fatal collision. The arrested individual is currently being held at a Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, and has not been publicly named.

Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 10am, where they found Mr. McLoughlin unresponsive. He was later brought to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead.

Mr. McLoughlin leaves behind a partner, Thelma, as well as brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and extended family who will miss him greatly. His death notice indicates that he has a wide circle of friends who mourn him.

A vehicle has been recovered in connection with the hit-and-run incident, and Gardaí are urging anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward. The location of the Garda station appealing for information is Trim, Co Meath.
