Emergency medical services (EMS) immediately rushed to the scene, administering care. The man was later transported to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition.

McCutchen wrote, "Truly hate what happened tonight. Cant help but think about that guy, his family and friends. I pray tonight for him. Let us think about his loved ones and hug our families a little tighter tonight. I hope he pulls thru. May God Bless you all."

Pittsburgh Public Safety confirmed that their violent crime unit is investigating the incident. After the game, Pirates manager Derek Shelton asked for the audience's thoughts and prayers for the injured fan.
