Individual Moving from Stuttgart to Düsseldorf
Fortuna Düsseldorf Acquires Injury-Plagued Winger Luca Raimund from VfB Stuttgart
The tables have turned for Luca Raimund, once a promising prospect with DFB Cup winners VfB Stuttgart, now joining Fortuna Düsseldorf in the second division. The switch seems imminent, although the terms of the contract remain undisclosed. Reports suggest a transfer fee of 400,000 euros, with Raimund's contract with Stuttgart set to expire in 2026.
Klaus Allofs, Fortuna's sporting director, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, claiming, "We've managed to land a quite intriguing offensive player in Luca. He's already tasted Bundesliga action with Stuttgart, so we're confident he'll boost our squad and bring value to Fortuna." Raimund played only three games in the top tier for Stuttgart.
Luca's Tale of Misfortune
A Stuttgart homegrown talent, Raimund was expected to make a name for himself with the Swabians, but persistent injuries thwarted these expectations. VfB's sporting director, Fabian Wohlgemuth, commented, "Following a very promising start, Luca fell victim to unfortunate injuries, resulting in an unfulfilling season."
Post the announcement of Raimund's signing, Fortuna revealed another new recruit — Anouar El Azzouzi, moving from Dutch first division club PEC Zwolle to the Rhine. The details of his contract and buyout clauses are yet to be disclosed.
Injury Lands Luca a Second Chance
Raimund's lingering thigh injury has left a substantial mark on his career at VfB Stuttgart. The 2024/25 season was particularly challenging for the young winger, as the injury limited his playing time, mainly confining him to the Stuttgart second team in lower leagues.
Although he made some appearances for Stuttgart's senior squad during the 2023/24 season, including three Bundesliga games, and played 24 matches for the second team in the Regionalliga, scoring goals and showcasing his potential, the thigh injury of 2024/25 hindered his progress at the highest level.
The move to Fortuna Düsseldorf in 2025 presents Raimund with a fresh opportunity to rebuild his career after recovering from injury. While the threat of recurring injury looms, Raimund's youth (20 years old) and past international experience with Germany's youth teams indicate a hopeful prognosis. The move is viewed as a strategic step for regular playing time and a chance to prove his fitness and capabilities at a competitive level below the Bundesliga.
In essence, Raimund's career at Fortuna Düsseldorf offers a chance to redeem himself from his injury-marred past at VfB Stuttgart. With a fresh start, if he can maintain fitness and avoid recurring injury, he has the potential to be a valuable asset for Düsseldorf, deploying the lessons learned in Stuttgart's system to make an impact in the 2. Bundesliga.
