Individual meets tragic demise following thrill ride on recently opened roller coaster at upcoming Florida amusement park, Epic Universe
In a shocking turn of events, Florida's latest addition to the world of theme parks, Epic Universe, has faced a fatal incident. According to reports from the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, a man in his 30s passed away after an incident at the park.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Epic Universe, the nation's newest amusement park that opened its doors in May 2025. This marks the first major, traditional theme park to open in Florida since 1999, when Universal Islands of Adventure debuted.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando confirmed the incident to The Associated Press, but details regarding the cause of the incident are yet to be disclosed. The deceased individual was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Epic Universe, with its five themed sections and a 500-room hotel, has been a much-anticipated addition to the Florida resort. The addition of the park increases the number of parks at the Florida resort to four. Universal Orlando Resorts opened a themed Orlando water park, Volcano Bay, in 2017, but Epic Universe is their first major theme park since then.
Sadly, this is not the only incident reported at Epic Universe. In the second quarter of this year, there were a dozen reports from Disney World, Universal, and SeaWorld Orlando. Among these, a 63-year-old man with a preexisting condition experienced dizziness and an altered state of consciousness at Epic Universe. Another 32-year-old man experienced chest pains after going on the Hiccup's Wing Gliders ride at Epic Universe.
Reports also indicate that a 47-year-old woman with a preexisting condition had a visual disturbance and numbness after going on the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Epic Universe. On the other hand, a 78-year-old woman became unresponsive on a child-friendly carousel at SeaWorld, while an 87-year-old woman lost consciousness after going on the Dinosaur ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
It is important to note that Florida's largest theme parks, including Universal Studios, are exempt from state safety inspections. However, they must report to the state any injury or death. The security inspections at Epic Universe are conducted by the local law enforcement and safety authorities in Orlando, Florida.
As investigations continue, the community is left to grapple with this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those affected.
