Individual in California receives prison sentence for sharing illicit content
Caught and Convicted: A 25-Year-Old Santa Ana Man Faces 23 Years Behind Bars for Deadly Fentanyl Distribution
Anthony Aguirre, a Santa Ana resident, was handed a severe punishment on April 24. The 25-year-old was given a 23-year prison sentence for his involvement in distributing fentanyl to a 17-year-old girl, who tragically lost her life due to an overdose. Additionally, Aguirre pleaded guilty in July to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing also includes an eight-year term of supervised release as per federal prosecutors.
According to court records, in September 2022, Aguirre sold ten pills containing fentanyl to an unidentified buyer and their associates. Sadly, one of these friends succumbed to an acute fentanyl intoxication, likely caused by consuming at least one of the distributed pills. In October 2022, Aguirre allegedly sold at least 11 pills containing fentanyl to a minor in Tustin for $15 a pill.
Aguirre is also accused of selling pills to a 14-year-old girl on multiple occasions. In October 2022, the girl reported feeling sick after taking the pills, to which Aguirre responded by urging her to take more pills to alleviate the supposed withdrawal symptoms. Aguirre sold her three more pills containing fentanyl in Huntington Beach, resulting in another overdose but the girl managed to survive.
In a chilling turn of events, in November 2022, Aguirre unwittingly sold 10 pills containing fentanyl for $150 to an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent in Costa Mesa. During the exchange, Aguirre warned the agent to exercise caution, mentioning that a friend had passed away after using the same pills. Aguirre is believed to have sold fentanyl-laced pills to two more minors later that month, one of whom overdosed but survived.
In December 2022, Aguirre arranged a transaction with another undercover DEA agent. Upon arrival at the arranged location, Costa Mesa police officers conducted a traffic stop and discovered a bag containing 20 pills that contained fentanyl in the driver's side door. The same day, officers conducted a search of Aguirre's Santa Ana home and found various narcotics in his kitchen cabinets, including around 163 grams of fentanyl, approximately 38 grams of a methamphetamine mixture, 25 grams of MDMA, 77 grams of cocaine, and about 300 tablets containing 95 grams of Bromazolam.
Officers also seized a small weight scale with drug residue, small baggies used to package drugs, and a loaded semi-automatic pistol, further implicating Aguirre in a wide-ranging drug trafficking operation.
