"Individual Charged in Connection with "Rust" Incident Released Under Restrictive Terms"

Rust Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed Released from Jail under Strict Probation Terms

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer of the Western film "Rust," was released from prison on Tuesday, according to New Mexico authorities. The 28-year-old served 18 months in prison for her role in the 2021 on-set shooting that resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Gutierrez-Reed's release comes under strict probation conditions, as detailed in documents obtained by "Entertainment Weekly." These terms require her to immediately report to a probation officer in Bullhead City, Arizona. She must adhere to an absolute ban on contact with the victim's family, a curfew, and a prohibition from being near weapons.

In early March 2024, Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of negligently performing her duties on the set of "Rust," contributing to Hutchins' death. The sentencing judge sentenced her to the maximum sentence of 18 months in prison without probation. The court stated that Gutierrez-Reed had shown no remorse at any point.

In a prepared statement, Gutierrez-Reed expressed her sadness over the media's sensationalization of the tragedy and portrayal of her as a "complete monster."

Gutierrez-Reed was charged with involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of Hutchins on the "Rust" set. According to reports, she was responsible for ensuring the safety of the weapons on the set. A gun held by actor Alec Baldwin fired a live round, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.

Following years of delays, "Rust" was released in theaters a few weeks ago, but the film was a massive flop. It has so far grossed only around $27,000 worldwide.

I'm not going to tell you what I'm gonna do, but it seems that Alec Baldwin, being involved in the tragic accident on the "Rust" set that led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, might be a topic of interest in crime-and-justice discussions, especially in light of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed's release from prison and her subsequent probation under strict conditions.
