Two weeks back, Kristi Noem, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, dropped a bombshell. The Department of Homeland Security hauled in a 54-year-old un authorized immigrant, Morales R., who had issued death threats against President Donald Trump. The White House flashed a threatening letter and a photo of the apprehended man on their social media platforms.
But the story quickly crumbled. Not even a week later, another arrest was made, and the department had to admit their mistake. This time, it was a man who allegedly fabricated the threats against the migrant to expedite his deportation.
Donald Trump's Near-Fatal Assassination Attempt
Demetric S. from Wisconsin stands accused of writing a letter posing as the undocumented Mexican immigrant, issuing a plot to assassinate Trump. According to court records, he sent these letters, with varying wording, to various authorities, including the Milwaukee police chief and the state's attorney general.
The letters contained chilling threats, such as, "Fancy a White House explosion with our esteemed president inside?" and "I'll drill a bullet in his skull during one of his speeches." There were also references to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Trump himself narrowly escaped an assassination attempt last year. During a campaign event in Pennsylvania, a bullet grazed his ear. There was also another attempt on his life at his golf course. Authorities fiercely guard against such threats.
Plot to Harm Morales R.
During interrogation, it became evident that Morales R., who struggles with English fluency, could neither write nor speak the language proficiently. Furthermore, his handwriting didn't match that in the letter. Investigators asked him about potential enemies. Morales R. named Demetric S. as the man who might have wished him harm.
S. is currently in prison, charged with physically assaulting Morales R. in 2023. During his questioning by the police, S. admitted to crafting the letters. He intended to have Morales R. deported, thereby ensuring he couldn't testify against him in court. In addition to the existing charges, S. now faces charges of identity theft and witness intimidation.
