In the midst of Euro 2020 quarterfinals last June, a daring young man from Osnabrück left the courts scrambling for 12,000 euros - all because he dared to scale Dortmund's football stadium roof. Now, he's playing hardball, refusing to cough up the cash. The scene is shifting to Gelsenkirchen, where he's taken his case to the administrative court.

The court spokesperson has confirmed the news to the German Press Agency. In the court's docket now, under file number 17 K 3525/25, lies the lawsuit against the bill. The legal brief from the man's lawyer was handed over to the court last Friday.

Police Force Bill: 12,076.93 Euros Demanded

The Dortmund police didn't mince words when they sent the man, then 21, a bill for 12,076.93 euros. The invoice covered deployment costs, with 9,973.00 euros designated for the personnel costs of the attending forces. Additional costs were incurred for the inspection and securing of the backpack by officers of the North Rhine-Westphalia State Criminal Police Office and the deployment of the police helicopter. So far, the man has only faced a 1,050 euro fine for trespassing.
