Heavy Monsoon Rains Cause Flooding and Tragedy in Mandaue City, Philippines
Mandaue City, Philippines, has been hit by a devastating flood caused by heavy monsoon rainfall starting on August 15, 2025. The floodwaters submerged streets from knee- to neck-deep, destroyed homes, partially blocked roads, and affected thousands of residents.
The flood severity was due to the Butuanon River overflowing, a consequence of the heavy rainfall. This led to widespread flooding, causing eight homes to be totally destroyed and affecting more than 2,900 residents.
Unfortunately, a 25-year-old man lost his life during the flood. He drowned in the raging floodwaters while attempting to stop a taxi from being carried off in Barangay Paknaan. His body was later found in Sitio Pagatpatan, Barangay Paknaan. The taxi was recovered in a mangrove area in Paknaan.
