In an interview with the German Press Agency, film director Michael Bully Herbig discussed the release of his latest comedy, "Das Kanu des Manitu," which is now available in cinemas. The sequel to the Western parody "Der Schuh des Manitu," "Das Kanu des Manitu" is a significant event in the German film industry.
Herbig, known for his successful works in German cinema, expressed his views on the current debates in Germany. He believes that there are only rigid viewpoints in the discussions, and he advocates for calmness on both sides. He sees the growing awareness of injustices and hurtful or racist representations as a positive development but believes that the Woke movement can tip over in the opposite direction if taken too far.
Regarding the immediate criticism of "Das Kanu des Manitu," Herbig was surprised. He suggests making a great film first and then watching it together, instead of criticizing immediately. He believes that it's wrong to bash everything offensive and call it 'woke' today.
Herbig's comments were made on the occasion of the cinema release of "Das Kanu des Manitu." The film, which will be released on August 14, is expected to continue the success of its predecessor, "Der Schuh des Manitu," one of the most successful German cinema films.
