Individual accused of attacking a federal agent in Washington D.C. using a sandwich as a weapon.

In the heart of the nation's capital, a 37-year-old man named Sean Charles Dunn found himself in hot water after an altercation with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers. Dunn, a former Department of Justice employee, was federally charged with assaulting a CBP officer following an incident on the night of August 11, 2025.

The incident occurred near the corner of 14th and U streets in Northwest D.C., a bustling area with bars and restaurants. According to reports, Dunn shouted profanities and expressed objections to the federal presence before allegedly throwing a sub-style sandwich at the officer. A video of the interaction went viral, showing Dunn yelling at the agents and eventually throwing the sandwich at the CBP officer.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jeanine Pirro, confirmed that the sandwich thrown at the agent was from Subway. Dunn was formally arrested on Wednesday night after attempting to surrender to authorities following the issuance of a federal warrant.

The assault carries a maximum of one year in prison, or up to eight years if it involves "physical contact" or the intent to commit another felony. However, there is no publicly reported resolution such as a trial or plea from Dunn as of the latest updates in mid-August 2025.

Attorney General Pam Bondi described Dunn as an example of the "Deep State" and stated that he would not be allowed to work in her administration while disrespecting the government and law enforcement. Dunn had been employed as a paralegal in the department's Office of International Affairs.

The case will be prosecuted by Pirro's office, which was nominated by President Donald Trump and has vocally supported his latest initiative. It's worth noting that the incident took place the day before President Trump's announcement about taking over Washington's police force.

While the officer who was struck with the sandwich did not appear injured in the video, Dunn confessed to the crime after being apprehended, according to a transit police detective. As the legal process unfolds, the public awaits the outcome of this unusual case.
