Indie film enthusiasts, gather on the Lower East Side this weekend for an unforgettable short film screening festival, organized by three independent groups.
Underground Cinema Event Celebrates Queer and Offbeat Films
A unique film screening event is set to take place on August 10, 2025, at 55 Chrystie St, Lower East Side. Three cinema groups - Night Owl Video, Olympia's Sleazy Femme Film Festival, and Brooklyn's Videodome Jr. - have joined forces for this one-night-only collaboration.
The event will showcase short films by independent and underground filmmakers, with a focus on feminist, queer, and punk communities. Rob Patrick, Director of Programming at the Olympia Film Society, described Sleazy Femme Film Fest as part Warheads candy and part swinging paint can, with an unpredictable curation that is moving, often humorous, and occasionally taffy-brained.
Attendees must be 21 years old or older to attend the event. Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.showclix.com/. Each ticket costs $11.25, which includes a $1.25 service fee.
Participating filmmakers and artists whose works are featured at the event include Tempest Creation, Hazel Katz-Muna Muhsin, Vape Kid Jr., SG Egan, Ángel Jacinto, Glitter Macabre, Ryan Bender, Josafat Concepcion, Lisa Hammer, Jason Greenblatt, and animator Erma Fiend from Videodome Jr.
From Sleazy Femme Film Fest, films will be presented by Lampros Kordolaimis, Becca Kozak, Maren Moreno, Kaye Adelaide, Mariel Sharp, David Leo, Susannah Farrugia, Avian de Keizer, and Ruby Mullen.
Maren Moreno, the creator of Sleazy Femme Film Fest, started the festival to bring underground queer film from various locations to Olympia, WA. She expressed her belief that the event will bring together a community of feminists, queers, and punks in person to watch movies made by truly independent directors.
Dylan Mars Greenberg, the creator of Videodome, shared his excitement for the event, which he believes will celebrate innovative filmmakers from NYC and beyond. The event starts at 7:30 pm and is not to be missed by those who appreciate independent and underground cinema.
