Berlin-Based Suspect in Custody for Elderly Victim Robberies and Murders
Having spent time in the slammer since May 2023, a 23-year-old man now stands accused of his involvement in a chilling series of robberies and homicides in both Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt. The public prosecutor's office announced on Thursday that he's facing charges of multiple treacherous joint murders and gang robberies.
The chilling narrative stems from two particularly tragic instances that occurred in summer 2022. The alleged perpetrators deceived an elderly woman in Annaburg, Saxony-Anhalt, leading her to open her apartment door. Once inside, the unsuspecting victim was subjected to a brutal assault, including being beaten, roped up, and eventually strangled before the culprits made off with valuable items.
The following day, the vile acts continued in Berlin's Märkisches Viertel district, where an 83-year-old resident met a grizzly end. Prosecutors revealed that the aged man passed away during or following the attack, as his mouth had been sealed shut with tape.
The suspect's alleged warpath continued with four perpetrators brutally forcing an elderly couple to disclose their money and valuables in July 2022 in Berlin. The couple, aged 81 and 87, were viciously beaten and gagged in their own home before being seriously injured.
While working their way through the elderly population in Berlin, criminal acts against victims aged 82, 78, and 80 occurred in their own homes.
