India's triumph reaffirmed at the Universal Postal Congress in Dubai: MEA exults over India's repeated victory

In a significant development at the 28th Universal Postal Union (UPU) Congress held in Dubai, India was re-elected for the period 2025-2028. The Congress, attended by 2,000 representatives from 192 member nations, marked a milestone for India as it continued its active participation in global postal cooperation.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia represented India at the Congress and dedicated the re-election to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Jyotiraditya Scindia also affirmed India's commitment to the UPU's mission of a modern, inclusive, and resilient global postal system, as it serves 1.45 billion people.

One of the major highlights of the Congress was the unveiling of the UPI-UPU Integration project. This project connects India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the UPU's Interconnection Platform. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, made the announcement, stating that the integration is expected to benefit millions of Indian households and support broader economic growth.

India Post, the world's largest postal network, is evolving into a logistics leader with six distinct business verticals. The government official representing India at the Congress, Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary of the Department of Posts, underscored India Post's citizen-focused services such as Passport Seva Kendras.

Randhir Jaiswal also stated that India would continue to provide innovative postal solutions for its citizens and share them with the Global South. Initiatives like Direct Benefit Transfers, upgraded postal software, and CRM tools are strengthening efficiency and accountability in India Post.

The UPI-UPU Integration project is a testament to India Post's commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of its citizens. No private courier service can match India Post's presence in 680,000 villages, a factor that has been instrumental in its success.

The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a United Nations specialized agency based in Bern, Switzerland, works to harmonize international mail services by setting common rules, standards, and technologies. The UPU Congress provides a platform for member nations to discuss and decide on matters related to postal services, and India's re-election and the UPI-UPU Integration project are significant steps towards a more connected and efficient global postal system.
