In a recent turn of events, former U.S. President Donald Trump has requested the European Union to impose higher tariffs, up to 100%, on India and China, in an attempt to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to the negotiation table.

This bold move was met with strong criticism from journalists, with Daniel Bordman comparing the situation to a mad man holding a knife and a gun. The comparison was made after Trump's birthday call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The resumption of trade talks between India and the U.S. has occurred, but the 50% tariff on Indian goods still remains for now. Trump, however, has been seen softening his stance, indicating a positive outcome of the India-U.S. trade deal.

In response to Trump's wishes, Prime Minister Modi expressed India's support for the U.S.' initiatives towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict. However, the situation is not without controversy. White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has been blaming India for supporting Russia's war against Ukraine due to New Delhi's oil purchases.

The journalist Daniel Bordman also used a metaphor of a person threatening to steal peanut butter and corn to describe the situation with Trump. Despite the metaphor, Bordman expressed uncertainty about fully analyzing the whole situation with Trump.

The tariff saga between India and the U.S. has been a complex game of diplomacy, with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick complaining that India does not buy enough US corn. Lutick stated, "India brags that they have 1.4 billion people. Why don't 1.4 billion people buy one bushel of US corn?"

In a surprising turn, Trump praised PM Modi, saying he is doing a "tremendous job". He also described his call with PM Modi as "wonderful". Modi, in return, thanked Trump for his support in ending the Ukraine war.

Amidst the complexity, one thing is clear: the situation between the U.S. and India remains a fascinating study in international diplomacy. Despite the challenges, it seems that both leaders are working towards a mutually beneficial resolution.
