India's Ministry Halts Tenders, Vows Fair Play in Solar Cell Push

India's Ministry of Renewable Energy has ordered clean energy agencies to scrap and reissue tenders for government projects. The move comes after some agencies rushed tender processes, giving companies just seven days to submit bids. This potentially allowed them to bypass rules mandating the use of domestically produced solar cells.

The ministry has set a 15-day deadline for agencies to report back on the cancelled tenders. The decision follows concerns that hurried tender processes may have undermined India's goal of achieving self-sufficiency in solar cell production by March 2027. While initial production levels may be lower, the ministry is committed to this target.

The ministry's action aims to ensure fair and transparent tender processes. It also underscores India's resolve to boost domestic solar cell production, crucial for its renewable energy ambitions.
