India's Esports Team Shines and Struggles at Asian Games 2022 Debut

India's esports team faced mixed fortunes at the Asian Games 2022, marking the sport's debut as an official medal event. The country participated in four titles, with notable performances and disappointments.

In DOTA 2, India's hopes were dashed early as they exited the group stage after losses to Kyrgyzstan and the Philippines. Meanwhile, Ayan Biswas brought cheer by securing a Top 16 spot in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. However, Mayank Prajapati's journey ended prematurely in the losers bracket round 1 of the same game.

The League of Legends team put up a valiant fight, finishing fifth after a quarter-final loss to Vietnam. In EA Sports FC Online, Karman Singh and Charanjot Singh both made it to the losers bracket but fell short against opponents from Kuwait and China respectively.

Despite the mixed results, India's participation in four esports titles at the Asian Games 2022 reflects the growing recognition and importance of the sport. The Skillhub Online Games Federation (SOGF) now represents India in global esports organizations, succeeding the Electronic Sports Federation of India (ESFI).
