India’s digital census and trade deals reshape its global influence in 2025
India gears up for significant events and developments in the coming months. The Registrar-General and Census Commissioner has announced a Self-Enumeration facility through the Census Portal, while the Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) has approved the creation of two new specialised cadres for centralisation. Meanwhile, Typhoon Kalmaegi has caused widespread damage in the Philippines and other regions. In international relations, Kazakhstan is set to join the Abraham Accords, and India has made progress in trade agreement negotiations with Latin American countries.
From 1st to 7th November 2025, citizens can utilise the Self-Enumeration facility on the Census Portal to enumerate themselves. This marks a significant step towards India's first digital Census in 2027, which will also feature mobile applications like Digital Layout Map (DLM) and Census 2027 - Houselist in their trial phase.
The CAG has approved the creation of two new cadres, the Central Revenue Audit (CRA) Cadre and the Central Expenditure Audit (CEA) Cadre, to enhance centralisation within the Indian Audit and Accounts Department. This move aims to strengthen the audit process and improve efficiency.
Typhoon Kalmaegi, originating in the western Pacific Ocean, has left a trail of destruction in the Philippines and other affected regions. Heavy rainfall, flooding, and strong winds have caused large-scale agricultural and infrastructural damage, highlighting the need for robust disaster management strategies.
In diplomatic news, Kazakhstan is poised to join the Abraham Accords, following the lead of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, Morocco, and Kasachstan. This decision signals a growing trend of normalisation of relations between Israel and Arab nations.
India's strategic push to strengthen economic ties with Latin America has seen progress in trade agreement negotiations. The 9th round of talks with Peru and the 3rd round of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations with Chile have concluded successfully.
The upcoming weeks and months promise significant developments in India, from digital innovations in Census processes to enhanced centralisation in auditing and robust economic diplomacy. Meanwhile, the world watches as Kazakhstan joins the Abraham Accords, further normalising relations between Israel and Arab nations.
