India’s blind women’s cricket team makes history with undefeated World Cup win

The Indian women’s blind cricket team returned home to a hero’s welcome after winning the first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind. Their undefeated run in Sri Lanka included victories over Sri Lanka, Australia, Pakistan, and Nepal in the final. The players described their journey as both challenging and historic.

The tournament saw India dominate from the start, securing wins in every match. In the final, they restricted Nepal to 114/5 before chasing the target in just the 13th over. Opener Phula Saren led the charge with 44 runs, while Karuna K contributed 42, earning Saren the Player of the Match award.

The team’s triumph marks a milestone in blind cricket, bringing visibility to women athletes with disabilities. Their undefeated campaign and the recognition they received—from local supporters to the Prime Minister—highlight their determination and skill. The Rs 1 lakh prize and public celebrations further cement their achievement in sporting history.
