Indiana Fever Sign Odyssey Sims to Boost Playoff Push

The Indiana Fever, in the midst of a promising season, have bolstered their roster with the addition of veteran point guard Odyssey Sims. The Fever, who are eyeing a second consecutive postseason appearance and their first winning season since 2015, signed Sims to a hardship contract.

With a record of 18-14 and currently in fifth place in the standings, the Fever are hoping to make a playoff run. However, their chances depend heavily on the health of their players come September. Key player Caitlin Clark has been sidelined due to a series of injuries, missing her 10th straight game on Saturday.

Clark, who is averaging 16.5 points, five rebounds, and 8.8 assists in her 13 games this season, is currently without a return timeline. To fill the void at the point guard position, the Fever turned to Sims, who brings a similar skillset to Aari McDonald.

Sims, who has played for six different teams since beginning her career in 2014, averaged 9.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists on 35.3% shooting from 3-point range in her 12 appearances with the Los Angeles Sparks this season. Her pesky point of attack defense, willingness to play at pace, and ability to get downhill should provide a much-needed boost to the Fever's offense.

Sims' hardship contract lasts for seven days, with the possibility of another seven-day extension. Hardship contracts are short-term additions that allow teams to exceed the usual 12-player roster limit when they fall below the minimum of 10 available players due to injury or illness. The Fever became eligible for a hardship exception due to season-ending injuries to Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald.

Fever coach Stephanie White is being cautious with Clark's recovery, focusing on her long-term health. Sims will help stabilize the point guard position until Clark is ready to play again.

On Tuesday, the Fever will face a tough test when they take on Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings. The outcome of this match could have significant implications for both teams' playoff aspirations.
