Indian Railways Launches Sonik Hub for Affordable Cargo Transport
Indian Railways has taken a significant step towards enhancing affordable transportation across India with the inauguration of the Sonik integrated logistics hub. This marks the beginning of a new era in cargo handling and distribution, promising improved efficiency and reduced costs.
The Sonik hub, inaugurated by Ashwini Vaishnaw on October 11, 2025, offers a comprehensive range of services. It includes warehousing, inventory management, and distribution facilities, catering to a diverse range of cargo such as fertilizers, food grains, cement, and tractors. The hub operates an assured transit container train service bi-weekly, connecting Delhi to Kolkata and guaranteeing delivery within 120 hours.
The hub's door-to-door delivery service, powered by Logitech, has proven to be a game-changer. It has reduced logistics costs by 7.5 percent and transit time by nearly 30 percent compared to road transport. This service was launched between Mumbai and Kolkata using railway parcel vans, further expanding the reach of affordable transportation. Two new door-to-door freight services were also flagged off by Ashwini Vaishnaw, indicating Indian Railways' commitment to improving connectivity and efficiency.
The Sonik hub is set to play a pivotal role in India's logistics sector. With its wide range of services and efficient operations, it promises to boost agricultural and construction equipment transportation. As Indian Railways plans to expand affordable transportation along the Mumbai-Kolkata corridor and beyond, the Sonik hub stands as a testament to India's progress in modernizing and streamlining its logistics infrastructure.
