Indian Pupils Safely Return Home: 110 Students Extracted from Iran Amidst Unrest, Arrive in Delhi
Here Comes the Homecoming! Indira Gandhi International Airport Witnesses the Safe Arrival of Indian Students from Iran
Hop aboard the exciting tale of 110 Indian students, freshly evacuated from the northern regions of Iran and warmly welcomed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. This heartwarming reunion took place on a thrilling Thursday as part of Operation Sindhu, India's mission to bring its citizens back from the conflict zone.
In a stirring statement, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced, "Operation Sindhu is full steam ahead! Our government has mobilized to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran, commencing with the successful transfer of 110 students from northern Iran who made it safely to Armenia, all under the watchful eyes of our missions in Iran and Armenia on June 17th. They embarked on a special flight from Yerevan early on June 19th, 2025, bound for the Indian capital."
An exhilarating sight to behold were the eager families greeting their returning children at the airport. Waves of appreciation echoed through the air as they praised the stellar work of the central government.
"I couldn't be happier to see my daughter again!" exclaimed a mother of one evacuated student. She went on to say, "I hope everyone's children come home safe and sound, just like mine. Kudos to the government for pulling this off so smoothly!"
A father shared his gratitude towards the Indian Embassy in Tehran, thanking them for their priceless efforts in bringing his son back home. He also urged the government to help the students still stranded in Tehran.
"My son is on his way back from Armenia, courtesy of the special plane India dispatched," he said with a smile. "He was doing his MBBS in Iran. I'm overjoyed that he's coming home... The Indian Government has really stepped up. I just want the students stuck in Tehran to find their way back home too. My son was in a relatively calm border area, but those in the heart of the chaos are still waiting for their turn," he shared.
One student, now safely on Indian soil, expressed their gratitude for the government's tireless efforts in evacuating students from the conflict-stricken nation.
"The situation here is going downhill fast, especially in Tehran. Indian students are being evacuated across the board. I'm from the Urmia University, and I owe it to the Indian authorities for their diligent work in keeping us safe and arranging our evacuation," the student said.
Another student, relieved to return to India, shared their terrifying experience while being stranded in Iran.
"I was a final-year student at Urmia University... We witnessed dramatic sights such as drones and missiles. We were terrified... But we're beyond thankful to be back in India and are extremely grateful to the Indian government, especially the Ministry of External Affairs. Our parents were anxious, but now they're over the moon!" shared the student.
The Indian Government takes the safety and security of its citizens abroad extremely seriously and is actively working on Operation Sindhu to ensure the safe return of Indians from Iran due to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel. The situation between the two nations deteriorated after Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear and military facilities under Operation Rising Lion last week. In retaliation, Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory, harming both military and civilian sites.
As the conflict continues to unfold, Operation Sindhu remains a top priority for the Indian Government, tirelessly working to secure the safety of its citizens and facilitate their return home. Stay tuned for more updates!
