Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Kolkata for a high-level military conference; discussions on bilateral issues with China, Bangladesh, and Nepal are expected.

In the heart of Kolkata, the Combined Commanders' Conference (CCC) is underway at the newly renamed Vijay Durg, Fort William. The three-day event, scheduled from September 15-17, brings together top military brass and government officials to discuss critical strategic matters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the conference, marking the commencement of intense deliberations aimed at strengthening the Armed Forces and equipping them to navigate a complex geo-strategic landscape. Among the attendees are Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and the service chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

The theme for this year's CCC is 'Year of Reforms - Transforming for the Future'. The conference is expected to focus on Reforms, Transformation & Change and Operational Preparedness, with a particular emphasis on India's military strategy with China following the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting in Tianjin.

The civil-military think tank is set to make a presentation during the CCC on key China policies, while the recent regime changes in Nepal and Bangladesh, as well as the current situation in Myanmar, will be analysed and scrutinised.

The CCC continues the tradition of inclusive engagement, ensuring that field-level perspectives enrich discussions at the highest level. The event will feature interactive sessions with officers and personnel of various ranks from the Armed Forces.

Besides strategic discussions, the CCC also serves as the eyes and ears of the government on the subject of China. The deliberations aim to further strengthen the Armed Forces, making them more agile and decisive in a complex geo-strategic landscape.

It's worth noting that the CCC takes place months after Operation Sindoor, a significant military operation. The conference provides an opportunity for the Armed Forces to reflect on their performance and plan for future operations.

While not directly related to the CCC, it's worth mentioning that the Indian government has announced its policy aim to boost the digital content sector in Maharashtra, signalling a focus on economic growth and digital transformation.

As the CCC continues, the nation awaits the outcomes of these critical discussions, which will undoubtedly shape India's strategic direction in the coming years.
