Prime Minister Modi Accelerates Development in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, marking a significant push towards development in his parliamentary constituency. During his visit, the leader launched and laid foundation stones for numerous projects worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore.

One of the key initiatives was the development of Karkhiyaon, the birthplace of notable freedom fighters. The restoration of the historic Durgakund and the beautification of the pond and ghat at Rangildas Kutiya in Shivpur were also initiated.

The redevelopment of Munshi Premchand's ancestral home in Lamahi into a museum and the redevelopment of eight riverfront Kuccha Ghats in Varanasi were other significant projects inaugurated by the Prime Minister.

In addition to these, electricity projects worth over Rs 880 crore were launched, including the Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of overhead electrical cables. The Varanasi-Bhadohi road and the Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar road were inaugurated as part of efforts to strengthen connectivity.

A railway overbridge at Hardattpur was also inaugurated, which is expected to alleviate congestion on the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura route.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister launched the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme during his visit. Over Rs 20,500 crore have been directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers as part of this instalment.

The PM-KISAN scheme, currently nearing the release of its 20th installment, provides ₹6,000 annually (disbursed in three equal installments of ₹2,000) to small and marginal farmers across India to support their agricultural and household expenses. The scheme has had a significant impact by acting as one of the largest direct income support programs globally for farmers, helping reduce financial burdens and supporting rural livelihoods.

To continue receiving payments, beneficiaries must complete mandatory electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) verification, as non-compliance can lead to exclusion from the beneficiary list.

In summary, PM-KISAN remains a crucial government welfare program, with the 20th installment imminent, awaiting final disbursement expected soon after July 2025, benefiting millions of farmers through direct cash transfers that aid their economic stability and farming-related expenses.

With these developments, Prime Minister Modi continues to drive progress and development in Varanasi, ensuring a brighter future for its citizens and the region as a whole.
