Prime Minister Modi Calls NDA Parliamentary Meeting Amid Political Tensions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a parliamentary meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) during the monsoon session, aimed at addressing the ongoing parliamentary deadlock caused by Opposition protests regarding the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, also aimed to strengthen coordination among NDA alliance partners amid heightened political friction in Parliament. The NDA parliamentary party felicitated PM Modi for his exceptional leadership in handling the government's firm military response to the Pahalgam terror attack under Operation Sindoor, emphasising national unity and pride.

During the meeting, PM Modi highlighted the Opposition’s mistake in demanding a debate on Operation Sindoor—a military response targeting terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)—and noted how the Opposition “shot itself in the foot” during the debate, which was seen as a political miscalculation.

The parliamentary meeting comes ahead of the nomination process for the Vice-Presidential election, scheduled to start on August 7. The NDA is expected to rally support within their ranks to ensure unity and announce their candidate by August 21 for the VP election nomination. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP national general secretaries are expected to work with NDA allies to finalize the name of the Vice-Presidential nominee.

PM Modi is also expected to address the Election Commission and defend it against claims of favoritism towards the BJP. The Opposition has been accused of not allowing for the constitution to be applied in Jammu and Kashmir.

The parliamentary meetings, which were previously exclusive to the NDA, now include parties like TDP, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas). The meeting could help NDA allies come up with a common strategy to nominate their Vice Presidential candidate.

While addressing the MPs, PM Modi criticized the Opposition for asking the government to hold a discussion on Op Sindoor. He also expressed his commitment to eliminating Naxalism and leaving 'no stone unturned' in their effort to do so.

The meeting took place amid the stalled Parliament's monsoon session, during which the Opposition has disrupted many proceedings except for a two-day discussion on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. PM Modi is also expected to speak about the April 22 terror attack and detail the government's prompt response.

The NDA aims to consolidate its strategy during this parliamentary meeting, as they approach the Vice-Presidential election process. This meeting is a significant step in ensuring unity within the NDA and preparing for the upcoming election.

  1. Amidst political tensions, discussions about policy-and-legislation and politics were held in the NDA parliamentary meeting called by Prime Minister Modi, with a focus on addressing the ongoing parliamentary deadlock.
  2. The meeting also included talks related to finance, as the NDA parliamentary party felicitated PM Modi for his exceptional leadership, including his firm military response to war-and-conflicts like the Pahalgam terror attack.

  4. Crime-and-justice was touched upon when Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address the Election Commission and defend it against allegations of favoritism towards the BJP.
  5. Sports and sports-betting were not directly mentioned in the parliamentary meeting, but the outcome of the NDA's strategy could potentially impact various sectors, including the economy and political landscape, impacting these areas indirectly.
