Indian air routes through Pakistani airspace remain closed until October 24th.

Pakistan has extended its airspace ban on Indian-registered aircraft for another month, affecting Indian carriers operating on international routes. The ban, which was first imposed in April, has been in effect since September 19, 2021, and this marks the fifth consecutive month that Indian flights are barred from Pakistani airspace.

The ban, as announced by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), applies to both civil and military aircraft registered or leased to India. This includes all Indian-owned and operated aircraft, including those leased from Expedia and American Airlines. However, the ban does not apply to aircraft registered or leased from countries other than India, unless they are operated by Indian entities.

The airspace ban took effect from 1:00 p.m. on September 19 and will remain in force until 4:59 a.m. on October 24 (local time). This means that Indian carriers will be required to reroute flights to avoid Pakistan's airspace, adding to their operational costs.

The ban was initially issued as a notice by the PAA due to ongoing bilateral tensions following a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which India attributed to Pakistan. The ban significantly affected Indian airlines by forcing costly rerouting. According to the announcement, the airspace ban was extended until June 24, 2025.

However, no specific reason was cited in the latest notification for the extension of the airspace ban. The PAA has not provided any further details regarding the extension or the possibility of its removal in the near future.

The ban covers both civil and military aircraft that are either owned by Indian entities or leased for Indian use. This extends to both domestic and international flights, impacting numerous passengers and airline operations.

The extension of the airspace ban comes amidst ongoing tensions between the two nations, and it remains to be seen how long the ban will remain in effect and what impact it will have on the aviation industry in the region.
