Deepika Padukone, the acclaimed Bollywood actress, has announced her departure from the acting role in the Hindi remake of the Hollywood film, The Intern. She will continue to produce the film under her KA Productions banner.

Initially, Padukone was set to star alongside Amitabh Bachchan, who replaced the late Rishi Kapoor in the film. However, a new leading lady will now be cast to take over her role. This decision comes after the actress went on a maternity break, which also contributed to the delays in the film's production.

The Indian adaptation of The Intern, which has been in development since 2020, faced further delays due to the pandemic. The original 2015 film, The Intern, was a comedy-drama featuring Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro.

In a move towards creating globally relevant content, Deepika Padukone has planned five projects for the coming year. She aims to produce stories that resonate with audiences worldwide.

The role of Jules, originally intended for Padukone, remains unfilled due to her departure. Amitabh Bachchan was reportedly going to play the role of Jules in the Indian adaptation, but these plans have now changed.

Before her maternity break in 2024, Padukone starred in the film Fighter. As for her future endeavours, sources have revealed that she is looking forward to "explore her career further as a creator."
