India-Pakistan Sporting Relations: Mehbooba Mufti Advocates for Normalization

In a recent statement, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti expressed her support for the revival of sporting ties between India and Pakistan as a means to reduce tension and promote peace in the region. Mufti believes that sports can help normalize relations, foster peace, and divert resources from conflict to resolving issues like unemployment and poverty.

"There should be sporting events if you want to live in peace and not spend money on the war," Mufti said. "If we want to overcome unemployment and poverty, then you have to normalise the situation and sports is the best bet in achieving this goal."

Mufti criticized the prevailing war atmosphere and called on the Indian government to pursue peace and dialogue, noting that people in Jammu and Kashmir want peace with dignity and friendship with Pakistan. She urged dialogue and reconciliation instead of war rhetoric, stating that sports should remain separate from politics.

In addition to her support for sporting ties, Mufti also commented on a range of political and social issues. She accused the BJP-led government of failing in both domestic and foreign policy, as evidenced by the US imposing a 25% tariff on India. Mufti also criticized the BJP for creating an aggressive atmosphere in the country and for its Kashmir policy, which she claimed has failed and left the people of the region tired of its rhetoric and war cries.

Mufti also questioned how India can overcome poverty and unemployment when engaged in war with Pakistan. She claimed that the small country of Pakistan is compared unfavorably to India due to the BJP's policies, and she accused the BJP of allowing SAARC to be hijacked by China due to lack of communication with neighbors.

Mufti refused to comment on Sadhvi Pragya's remarks against the Congress but accused her of worshipping Godse. She also claimed that over one crore voters were added in Maharashtra between the parliamentary and assembly elections, in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegation of vote theft in favor of the BJP.

Mufti also addressed the recent terrorist attack on Pahalgam hill resort, which resulted in 26 deaths. She criticized the focus on Kashmir and the ceasefire in discussions about the incident, stating that Pakistan did nothing in the war. The Indian Armed Forces conducted Operation Sindoor in response to the attack, leading to a four-day military clash with Pakistan.

In summary, Mehbooba Mufti views sporting ties as a constructive step toward easing India-Pakistan tensions and advancing peace and economic well-being in the region. She has criticized the BJP's domestic and foreign policies and called for peace and dialogue instead of war rhetoric. Mufti has also commented on a range of other political and social issues, including the recent terrorist attack on Pahalgam hill resort and the addition of voters in Maharashtra during the parliamentary and assembly elections.

"Mehbooba Mufti believes that instead of focusing on war, sporting events could be a feasible solution to alleviate unemployment and poverty in our region."

"In her discourse, Mufti separates sports from politics, advocating for their role in promoting peace and maintaining a dialogue between India and Pakistan, regardless of the general news or political climate."
