Tragedy Strikes Salvage Operation of "Unsinkable" Superyacht "Bayesian"
Indefinite suspension of 'Bayesian's' recovery
In an unfortunate turn of events, the salvage of the superyacht "Bayesian," renowned as an "unsinkable" vessel, has been temporarily halted after a diver met his untimely end during an operation. The British company TMC Marine, orchestrating the operation, needs to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the diver's demise.
On a fateful Friday, a 39-year-old Dutchman met his end beneath the waves. Authorities are hoping an autopsy will shed light on the matter, with initial suspicions revolving around a possible heart attack or malfunctioning oxygen tank. However, reports from Italian news agency ANSA suggest that there may have been more to the story—perhaps the diver was struck by a metal object while wielding a cutting torch.
Diver's Grim Fate Shrouded in Mystery
This Superyacht sank off the Italian Mediterranean island back in the summer of 2024, claiming seven lives. The "Bayesian" now lies 50 meters deep on the seabed, about a kilometer from the coast. The salvage operation is complex, with estimated costs running into millions of euros.
The 56-meter yacht sustained irreparable damage during a storm, resulting in its sinking in just 15 minutes. Among the deceased were renowned British software billionaire Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, along with two couples and the ship's cook. Only the cook did not survive. A total of 15 crew members and guests miraculously made it through.
Speculations abound regarding the cause of the ships sudden sinking, from mechanical failure to wild conspiracy theories involving international intelligence agencies. Efforts are currently focused on the captain and two crew members, who are being accused of disregarding storm warnings and prioritizing their own survival.
A Ghostly Vessel Lurks Beneath the Waves
The "Bayesian," weighing a hefty 473 tons, was one of the world's largest sailing yachts. Underwater camera footage reveals the ship still largely intact, resting on its side at the bottom of the ocean. The salvage operation was initially delayed several times, with a previous estimate of completion by mid-June.
As of now, there is no official word on when the salvage operation will commence again. Our thoughts remain with the family, friends, and crew members mourning the loss of their loved ones.
