The Tragic Halt in the Recovery of the "Bayesian"

Indefinite suspension of 'Bayesian' recovery operations

The once-revered "Bayesian" yacht, infamously dubbed "unsinkable," met its demise in a storm last summer, claiming several lives. Now, a devastating turn of events has left the salvage operation indefinitely paused.

TMC Marine, the British company heading the recovery, has temporarily halted operations following the death of a diver on May 9. In a statement, they've pending investigations into the cause of the diver's untimely death, who was discovered lifeless after a dive on Friday.

Autopsy results are eagerly anticipated, as speculation centers on either a seizure, faulty oxygen tank, or a potential strike from a floating metal object while handling a cutting torch. Italian news agency Ansa has reported these new developments.

Unraveling the "Bayesian" Mystery

The 56-meter yacht, a colossal presence in the sailing world, sank in a mere 15 minutes during a storm off the small Italian port of Porticello in mid-August of the previous year. Among the victims were British software billionaire Mike Lynch, his 18-year-old daughter, two couples, and the ship's cook. Surprisingly, the entire crew managed to escape, with 15 crew members and guests miraculously surviving the disaster.

Swirling speculation surrounds the causes of this disaster, even implicating intelligence agencies. Lynch had links to various international intelligence services through one of his companies. However, investigations have primarily focused on the captain and two other crew members, accused of disregarding storm warnings and prioritizing their own survival.

The "Bayesian," with a weight of 473 tons, was one of the world's largest sailing yachts. Underwater camera footage shows the ship remarkably intact on the seabed, lying about 50 meters deep. Initial reports suggested the salvage operation would be completed by mid-June.
